Over the past few weeks I've fallen a little behind on my reviews. Here are four movies from 2011 I've seen without writing reviews and the scores I have given them.

ReplyDeleteI guess you didn't like it?
ReplyDeleteReasons why I loved it:
1. Intimacy. I felt like I was a fly on the wall for every scene. The director puts you literally in the middle of the story.
2. The first shot. Right from the beginning the audience is placed in the role of a judge. Then throughout the film, the director lets us judge each character based on their actions and he does a great job of not choosing sides.
3. I love how the story is a mix of an intimate family drama, court room thriller, and morality tale.
4. Acting. The acting is flat our perfect. I forgot they were actors - thought they were real people.
5. Cinematography - The look of the film is so unique and the way the camera operates in such intimate settings is genius.
6. It takes its time to build suspense instead of rushing to get to the climax.
7. How it's made in Iran yet feels totally universal.
Now, I don't think it's perfect and it's certainly not a movie I would watch for fun, but in terms of realistic filmmaking, it's easily one of the best films out there right now.
Hope that answers your question! I would love to hear why you didn't like it, if you in fact didn't like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading the blog!
We were not blown away in the theater but as we got further from it, we started to like it more for many of the reasons you mention. Plus, we started to discuss the possible underlying meanings of the story and the characters and what they might represent in relation to Iran. I think your final point may be our problem, it was Friday night after a week of work and it is not a movie to watch for fun. We rarely go to the movies. Most of our viewing is DVD or streaming. I think this might have been even better if we hadn't "gone out" for it. Your readers might consider looking for it when it is available for home viewing. Definitely worth watching with your 7 points in mind. The Adjustment Bureau DVD just arrived. We're looking forward to that.
